These are the hot air balloon Marrakech questions travellers ask us most, answered in a few lines each. In brief: flights run at sunrise only, every morning the weather allows; pickup from your hotel or riad is included; you spend 45 to 60 minutes in the air; breakfast follows the landing; and if we cancel for weather you get a new date or a full refund.
These are the hot air balloon Marrakech questions our team answers most often on WhatsApp and at the launch field, grouped by topic. Each answer is short and links to a fuller guide where one exists. If your question is not here, send it to us and we reply with a straight answer.
Booking and prices
How far ahead should I book my flight?
As soon as your dates are fixed, especially for holidays and spring weekends when mornings fill up. Booking early also lets you choose one of your first mornings in Marrakech, which leaves room to move the flight if the weather says no. Last-minute places are sometimes available; ask us on WhatsApp.
Where can I see your prices?
Every flight page shows its price in the booking box, and our price guide puts all of them in one table with what is included. Prices are per person and already include the hotel transfer and breakfast.
Is there a deposit or online payment?
No card is needed on this website. We work on a book now, pay later basis: you send the booking, we confirm it by WhatsApp or email, and we explain how payment works in that message. Nothing is charged when you press the button.
Is it cheaper to book through a booking platform?
Not necessarily. Platforms can be convenient, but the same flight may cost more or include less. Compare what is in the price, who the operator is and the cancellation terms. Our guide to booking on GetYourGuide, Viator and other sites explains what to check.
Why are some balloon offers so much cheaper?
A very low price usually means something has been left out: the transfer, the breakfast, a proper briefing, or insurance. Some offers also squeeze more people into the basket. See what to watch for in cheap balloon deals before you decide.
How do I change or cancel my booking?
Message us on WhatsApp on +212 600 643 098 or through the contact form with your name and flight date. Tell us what you would like to change and we reply with the options for your date.
The morning of your flight
When will I know my exact pickup time?
We send it the evening before your flight. It is roughly an hour and a half before sunrise, so around 5:00 in summer and around 7:00 in winter, adjusted to the date and your hotel’s location.
How far is the launch field from Marrakech?
It is a short drive outside the city, usually 30 to 45 minutes. The field changes with the wind each morning, which is why we do not publish an address. Read more about where the balloons take off.
What happens while the balloon is inflated?
You drink tea or coffee and eat warm msemen while the crew spreads out the envelope, fills it with air and lights the burner to stand it upright. It is noisy, bright and fun to watch, and it is a good moment for photos before dawn.
How long is the flight itself?
Between 45 and 60 minutes in the air, depending on the wind and where the pilot can land safely. The whole morning, from pickup to drop-off, takes about 4 to 5 hours. Our page on height and flight time explains why it varies.
What does the landing feel like?
Usually gentle, sometimes with a bump or a short slide across the field. Before take-off the pilot shows you the landing position to hold, and asks you to take it again just before touchdown. The ground crew follows the balloon and is there when you land.
When do I get back to my hotel?
Late in the morning. After landing there is breakfast and your certificate, then the drive back into Marrakech. Plan nothing before midday and the afternoon is entirely yours, whether for the souks, the pool or a nap.
Safety and weather
Who decides whether we fly?
The pilot, early on the morning of the flight, after checking wind, cloud, rain and the forecast. Nobody else can overrule a decision not to fly. Our safety page explains the checks in more detail.
What weather stops a balloon flight?
Strong or gusty wind, rain, low cloud and fog are the usual reasons. A clear sky in town does not always mean calm air at the field, so sometimes we cancel on what looks like a nice morning. Read how cancellations work.
Do I get my money back if the flight is cancelled?
If we cancel for weather or safety, you choose between a new date and a full refund. If the decision is made at the field, we drive you back to your hotel at no cost.
Are your flights insured?
Yes, every flight we operate is insured. If you need specific details for your own travel insurance, ask us when you book and we tell you what we can provide.
Is ballooning safe for a first-timer?
Serious accidents are rare in ballooning worldwide. Risk is kept low by careful weather decisions, a full briefing, maintained equipment and an experienced crew. First-timers need no skills: you listen to the briefing, follow the pilot’s instructions and enjoy the view.
Who can fly
Is there a minimum age for children?
We confirm when you book, because it depends on the child’s age and height: they need to see over the edge of the basket comfortably and stand safely. Children fly with an adult at a reduced price. See our age and weight guide.
Can older travellers fly?
Yes. Age alone is rarely a problem. For guests who find climbing into a basket hard, we have an accessible basket with a door and a seat. Ask us before booking so we can arrange it for your date.
Is there a weight limit?
Ask us before booking and we confirm for your flight. Weight matters for balance in the basket, so we prefer to know in advance rather than surprise anyone at the field.
Can I fly if I am pregnant?
Please ask us before you book. Landings can involve a bump, and we would rather discuss it with you and your doctor’s advice in mind than give a general answer here.
I am scared of heights. Will I cope?
Some people who dislike heights find a balloon easier than they expected, because there is no fixed edge below you to judge the drop and the movement is smooth. Tell the pilot before take-off so they can keep an eye on you. A private balloon gives nervous flyers more space and calm.
Comfort, clothing and photos
What should I wear?
Layers you can remove, closed flat shoes and a cap. It is cold before sunrise, especially from December to February, and warm by breakfast. Our outfit guide goes through each season.
Is there a toilet at the launch field?
Ask us when you book what is available on your date, as the field changes with the wind. It is wise to use the facilities at your hotel before pickup, since you will be in the countryside for a few hours.
Can I take photos and videos during the flight?
Yes. Use a wrist strap, keep a firm hold when leaning out, and do not use selfie sticks over the edge. Drones are not allowed near the balloons. For tips on the best moments, see our photoshoot guide.
Do I sit or stand in the basket?
Standard baskets are for standing, which gives everyone a clear view over the edge. If standing for an hour is difficult, ask us about the accessible basket with a door and a seat.
What should I leave at the hotel?
Large bags, long loose scarves, heels and anything you would hate to drop. A small bag or jacket pocket for your phone, sunglasses and a layer is all you need for the morning.
Special occasions and extras
Can you help me plan a proposal?
Yes, in a private balloon. We can arrange flowers, a discreet moment in the air or at the breakfast table, and a photographer on request. Read our proposal planning guide and tell us your idea when you book.
Can you bring a cake for a birthday or anniversary?
Yes, on request. Tell us the occasion and the name to write on it when you book, and we keep it a surprise. We can also decorate a private breakfast table if you fly in a private balloon.
Is a professional photographer available?
Yes, a photographer or video can be arranged on request. There is no fixed price on the website, so ask us with your date and we reply with what is possible.
Can I combine the balloon with a camel ride or quad biking?
Yes, on request with a partner, usually on the same day in the afternoon. Our page on balloon and camel ride days shows how a full day can work. Ask us for prices.
Is there a balloon festival in Marrakech?
We do not know of a regular public balloon festival here. What you do see on busy mornings is many balloons from several companies rising together at sunrise. Our festival page explains more.
Can you arrange a private car for the transfer?
Yes, on request. The standard transfer from your hotel or riad is included in every flight; if you would prefer a private car for your group, ask us when you book.
